Abstract We report cross sections for elastic and electronically inelastic collisions of low-energy electrons with 1-butyne. We considered from 1 up to 217 open channels in our calculations. The elastic cross sections were compared with available theoretical and experimental results, where the agreement is quite good. We also computed the inelastic cross sections for the excitation from the ground state to the lowest 1³A^ 1 3 A ′, 2³A^ 2 3 A ′, 1³A^ 1 3 A ″, 1¹A^ 1 1 A ″, 2¹A^ 2 1 A ′, and 2¹A^ 2 1 A ″ excited states. The total cross section was estimated by summing the elastic, inelastic and total ionization cross sections, where the latter was computed using the binary-encounter Bethe model. Graphical abstract
