The first example of a supramolecular complex of high-valent thallium (III) -containing "trapped" dichlorine, (Me4N) 3Tl2Cl9 (Cl2) (1), has been prepared. 1 was characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffractometry, indicating the presence of the "trapped" dichlorine unit with prominent Cl···Cl noncovalent interactions. The complex demonstrates a relatively high thermal stability (up to 140 °C). Features of the Cl···Cl halogen contacts were examined by Raman spectroscopy.
Korobeynikov et al. (Tue,) studied this question.
