There must be some design to the computer related curriculum in the secondary school. The conference board of the Mathematical Sciences Committee on Computer education fettle base of such a curriculum should be a junior high school course in "computer literacy". These materials must be designed to provide enough information about the nature of a computer so that students can understand the roles which computers play in society. This thesis is designed to (1) Provide the student information on how a computer works, (2) present the student with a sampling of ways the computer is used in society, (3) introduce the student to the notion of an algorithm and (4) the possible futures of computers in society. Students at all levels of the junior high school curriculum should find the content interesting and useful.
