For nuclei with only a few particles outside closed shells, rotational bands might be formed in configurations with holes in the core. Common properties of bands of this kind with hole(s) in the high-j shells, f7/2 g9/2 and h11/2 are discussed and specific examples are compared with experiment. At superdeformation it is suggested that an approximate decoupling factor for the π301 1/2 and ν411 1/2 orbitals can be extracted from existing data.
