In order to survive, man needs food. This basic physiological need is satisfied through food but the natural resources are reduced „in the world, one third of the food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted (1.3 billion tons per year)”. In this context it is imperative to identify ways to efficiently use the food resource, and the efforts that were made in Europe and around the globe support this need. In order to reduce the negative impact of food on the environment, it is necessary to undergo an ecological approach as well, sustaining the way to distribute and consume the food. Through this paper we draw attention to the fact that food waste and inequalities are particularly complex problems, very present and current in a globalized world, whose solution also depends on the awareness and collaboration of all the actors involved (producers, traders, consumers, food banks). In order to be in tandem with technological changes, we have also considered among the solutions the use of mobile applications, as well as various programs related to the global problem of food waste and the perspectives on sustainability of each of us. Obviously, we do not ignore the role of education in such an endeavor.
