Plantar flexor muscle size, composition and strength and the redistribution of joint work in gait of healthy older adults
Key Points
Gait mechanics did not significantly differ across muscle morphology and strength variations.
The analysis revealed that triceps surae characteristics correlated less with age-related gait mechanics changes.
Observational analysis of healthy older adults indicating muscle factors and gait did not align strongly.
Findings highlight the need for further exploration of other factors affecting gait in this population.
Abstract
These results suggest that triceps surae muscle morphology and function may not be a primary source of age-related changes in gait mechanics in healthy older adults.
