Historical foundations in Malawi have been shaped by colonial rule and subsequent independence struggles, which continue to influence contemporary governance challenges. Qualitative research methods will be employed, including document review and semi-structured interviews with key informants from various sectors. Themes emerged include colonial administrative structures that persist today, undermining effective local governance solutions. The historical context reveals continuities in governance challenges attributed to legacy systems inherited from colonial rule. Reevaluation of existing governance frameworks and integration of traditional knowledge into modern policy-making are recommended.
