AusVapeSafety: a prospective observational study of vape exposures and outcomes to an Australian Poisons Information Centre
Key Points
To assess the frequency and outcomes of unintentional vape exposures, particularly among young children.
Conducted a prospective observational study using data from an Australian Poisons Information Centre
Analyzed reports of vape exposures among children
Evaluated the presence of child safety features in vaping devices
Unintentional vape exposures were common, especially in young children
Serious poisonings were rare but potential for severe adverse effects exists
Child safety features were infrequently found in devices
Abstract
Unintentional vape exposures are relatively common, especially by young children reflecting easy accessibility to devices used by caregivers. Child safety features were rarely present. While serious poisonings were uncommon in our series, vape exposures pose a potential for severe adverse effects.
