ABSTRACT A color‐naming task was used to assess color vision in the fovea and parafovea. Like traditional psychophysical procedures, color naming showed that short‐wavelength vision is suppressed centrally. The anatomical and physiological mechanisms underlying tritan foveal vision are discussed.
