In order to study the hydrodynamic characteristics of a 210000 ton bulk carrier, numerical simulations were conducted based on computational fluid dynamics technology to simulate the ship's yaw motion with steering angle. This research employs the commercial software Starccm+ to simulate ship motion using three different methods: moving reference frame method, rigid body motion method, and the software's built-in PMM motion simulation. The calculated lateral force and yaw moment are compared with the experimental results, and the conclusion that the calculation accuracy of rigid body motion is the highest is obtained. The characteristics of the surrounding flow field in ship motion are analyzed to be consistent with the flow field in real experiments.
