This article considers the social aspects of psychological adaptation of elderly people in residential institutions of social protection. The main focus is on the challenges faced by the elderly, their vulnerability, and the need for social support. It highlights the issues in the development of communicative competence and its role in the social adaptation among the elderly. Various definitions of communicative competence and methods for its development in elderly people are presented. The results of studies demonstrating the positive impact of developing communicative competence on the quality of life of older adults are discussed. The conclusion emphasizes the need for further research and improvement of methods to achieve more successful outcomes in the area of social-psychological adaptation of elderly people in residential social protection institutions.
