In this paper,first we discuss about various generalizations of metric space. Our discussion gives emphasis on S-metric space on how it is obtained after introduction of various forms of generalized metric spaces. Secondly, we discuss about various generalizations of Banach contraction principle. In this case our discussion is limited to S-metric spaces. This paper will serve as a sizable survey on fixed points of contraction mappings on S-metric spaces. MSC 2010: 47H10, 54H25.
