As English Medium Instruction (EMI) has grown as a global phenomenon in universities, a debate has emerged on the extent to which teachers of EMI courses are prepared and supported, and what kind of Professional Development (PD) should be provided for them by institutions. This study briefly summarises the literature on this topic which has recently been published, before considering the question of what PD might be the most appropriate for EMI educators at Sophia University. This is done by discussing the results of a small-scale study, in which EMI educators in the university shared their views on what EMI PD should consist of in this particular context. The results indicate that above all, the participants value the opportunities to learn from peers in a community of practice of EMI educators from different disciplines inside the university, in the form of both small workshop-style gatherings and class observations.
