Abstract: Few studies examine Black women-loving women’s (Black WLW) sexual openness and range of sexual behavior. Using semistructured interviewing and open-ended surveys, this qualitative analysis reveals how Black WLW assign meaning to sexual behavior and use those meanings to communicate with their partners. By exploring a range of sexual behaviors, Black WLW discern which are desirable and undesirable, and which to modify or eliminate to facilitate sexual comfortability for themselves and their partners. These novel findings are important since they reveal how Black WLW understand and rank their willingness to discuss sex and sexual pleasure and make meaning of sexual behavior.
