Globally, inconsistencies in classifying cesarean delivery (CD) indications can lead to confusion in reporting and difficulty in comparing outcomes across settings. The urgent need for a classification system has recently been highlighted.1 The system should be useful, reproducible, robust, and mutually exclusive.2 Using a high-level classification system initially before addressing more detailed and subjective indications may be helpful. Separate classifications are needed for intrapartum and prelabor CDs.
