This article analyzes the political and economic relevance of youth in India by tracing their role from the freedom struggle to the present. It highlights their contributions to nation-building, social reform, and economic development, while examining shifts in their engagement across different historical phases. In contemporary India, where a majority of the population is young, youth emerge as a decisive force in both democratic participation and the workforce. Despite challenges such as unemployment, social constraints, and political disillusionment, they exhibit growing awareness and aspirations for reform. The paper underscores the need to mobilize both urban and rural youth through education, political participation, and leadership opportunities, concluding that India’s future development and democratic vitality depend significantly on the active involvement of its youth.
