The loads acting on the parts of the gas distribution mechanism (timing) of a diesel engine under conditions of shock interference when the valve plate is subjected to an impact from the bottom of the piston have been investigated. This emergency mode occurs when the normal kinematic connection between the crankshaft and the gas distribution mechanism is broken due to a broken belt or other causes. Based on modeling in the CAD systems (COMPASS 3D and Altair Inspire), the stress and strain values for rocker arms and valves were determined. These work materials can be used in the design, operability analysis, and search for causes of gas distribution mechanism failure in internal combustion engines (ICE).
