Mangrove ecosystems are globally recognized as powerful carbon sinks, yet vulnerable coastal cities such as Bosaso, Somalia, remain excluded from equitable carbon credit systems. This Correspondence highlights findings from the Dhag’an Valley mangrove forest, where degradation undermines both climate resilience and carbon sequestration potential. We call for urgent inclusion of community-led mangrove restoration in carbon markets to ensure climate justice for vulnerable states.
