Abstract The study examined the influences of online media exposure (i.e., media-related characteristics), trust in the government (i.e., political characteristics), and demographic characteristics (i.e., social characteristics) on media trust, including trust in media content, journalists, and media organizations in Vietnam, a socialist republic with a government-owned and -controlled media system. Based on 307 online survey responses, the findings suggested that higher levels of trust in the government are associated with more trust in media content, journalists, and media organizations. We also found that age and education were influential over the dimensions of media trust in different ways. Theoretical and empirical implications, as well as suggestions for governments and professional practitioners, were further discussed.
