In today’s knowledge‑driven economy, technical competence alone no longer guarantees successful entry into the labor market. Employers consistently rank communication and other soft skills—such as teamwork, problem‑solving, adaptability, and emotional intelligence—as critical determinants of employability (National Association of Colleges and Employers NACE, 2023). This paper provides an analytical synthesis of the literature on the development of communication and soft‑skill competencies, examining their conceptual foundations, pedagogical interventions, assessment practices, and the role of English as a lingua franca in global workplaces. A systematic review of peer‑reviewed studies (2010–2023) reveals three dominant strands: (1) integrated curricula that embed soft‑skill development within disciplinary content; (2) experiential learning formats—including internships, service‑learning, and simulated workplace tasks—that foster transferable competencies; and (3) digital and blended platforms that leverage multimedia, peer feedback, and analytics for skill acquisition. The analysis underscores the necessity of deliberate instructional design, authentic assessment, and continuous feedback loops to bridge the gap between academic preparation and employer expectations. Policy implications for higher‑education institutions, vocational training providers, and corporate talent‑development units are discussed, along with recommendations for future research on longitudinal outcomes and cross‑cultural efficacy.
