This article examines the problem of increasing the efficiency of traffic flow (TF) control. The relevance of solving the problem under consideration is substantiated. The effectiveness of existing methods is analyzed, and their advantages and disadvantages are identified. The formulation of the problem to be solved is given. The existing models and algorithms for traffic flow control are classified. A method of distributed control of traffic flows using the concept of active control is proposed. A control technique using an agent-based approach is developed. A scheme of interaction between agents in the control process is developed. The software implementation of the proposed method is completed.
