The evaluation fieldwork comprised the excavation of one trench, measuring 20m in length and 1.8m in width, at the location shown in the attached plan. The single trench was set out on OS National Grid coordinates with a Leica GPS. Overburden was stripped from the trench by a mechanical excavator fitted with a toothless grading bucket. All machining was conducted under archaeological supervision. The trench was excavated to the top of the archaeological deposits and features. Once these deposits and other features were recorded, the full length of the trench was stripped to the top of the natural substrate with the agreement of HE and GCCAS. In November 2025, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation at Tithe Barn, Hartpury, Gloucester. One trench was excavated to investigate a projected alignment of the northern arm of the moat from the scheduled monument 'Moated Site at Hartpury Court' (List Entry: 1016832), westwards into the site and which was based on a LiDAR survey. The evaluation revealed no evidence of the medieval moat associated with the Hartpury Court Scheduled Monument, indicating that its northern arm does not extend on the line projected from the LiDAR survey. A single, small undated ditch was recorded and interpreted as potentially being associated with water management or land division. No further deposits of archaeological interest were identified.
