An earthquake series with a significant impact was discovered on the Indonesian islands of Lombok and Sumbawa, located in the West Nusa Tenggara Province, at the end of July and the beginning of August 2018. The earthquakes, measured at M5-M7, caused residential, commercial, and office buildings constructed of brick to be damaged and collapse. The Government of Indonesia launched a speedy recovery policy through Presidential Instruction No. 5 of 2018 to initiate post-disaster recovery efforts. Learning from the Yogyakarta post-earthquake 2006 and Mount Merapi post-eruption recovery strategies, this study emphasized an assisted community-based strategy due to similar post-earthquake impact conditions. The study method, both qualitatively and quantitatively, describes and identifies case studies of the reconstruction process from the temporary transitional shelters stage to the establishment of permanent earthquake-resistant houses in the Bayan Timur Hamlet RT-1 , North Lombok Regency. Instead of the speedy recovery strategy, the Bayan Timur Hamlet RT-1 community opted for a conventional, community-based approach, which required more construction time. The implemented strategy can support the subsequent sustainable development of the inhabitants' future settlement if compared to the speedy recovery policy. The speedy reconstruction strategy can be more effectively implemented in the post-disaster relocation case.
