Available Regulation Capacity Assessment and Accuracy Enhancement for AGC in Multi‐Energy Power Systems

ABSTRACT The inherent uncertainty of renewable energy sources (RESs) and the complex coordination control strategies among diverse power sources pose significant challenges to the accurate assessment of the available regulation capacity (ARC) in multi‐energy power systems for automatic generation control (AGC). This paper proposes a novel assessment method for the ARC of multi‐energy power systems and designs a coordination strategy between RESs and battery energy storage systems (BESSs) to enhance assessment accuracy. First, an AGC model is constructed to analyse the AGC control characteristics. Then, a probabilistic interval prediction method is employed to quantitatively analyse renewable energy uncertainty, enabling a deterministic assessment of the AGC available regulation capacity. Furthermore, a coordinated regulation method for RESs and BESSs is proposed to reduce the confidence interval width of the available regulation capacity and improve the overall system accuracy. Finally, case studies under different scenarios demonstrate that the proposed method effectively mitigates the regulation difficulties caused by low assessment accuracy and overly wide high‐confidence boundaries, thereby significantly enhancing the AGC regulation capabilities of multi‐energy power systems.
