The evaluation comprised the excavation of six evaluation trenches, five measuring 10m x 1.8m and one measuring 13m x 1.8m providing an approximate 2% sample. The trenches were positioned to ground truth the geophysical anomalies, test blank areas of site and assess the areas of greatest impact from the development proposals. The evaluation was able to determine that archaeological remains were present in Trenches 3, 4 and 5. The remains comprised what appeared to be dumped deposits of industrial waste derived from iron working. Although no dating evidence was recovered from the deposits of industrial waste, it is more than likely that they are related to the evidence of 12th to 13th century iron working identified in trench 5 of the earlier evaluation (OA, 2007) and the focus of a subsequent excavation (OA, 2009). These investigations were located c. 15m to the south-east of the site.
