Abstract. This article explores the role of citizens' standard of living and quality of life as a complex parameter of socioeconomic development in Russian regions. Interregional differences in standard of living and quality of life are highlighted as a factor in the asymmetry of the country's economic space, which serves as a prerequisite for the development of standard methodological tools. Based on a critical analysis of the publication activity of Russian scholars, a hypothesis is put forward regarding the need for a combined approach to studying interre-gional inequality in standard of living and quality of life. The authors' proposals are based on the development of methodological stages of the study based on in-formation reflected in open ratings published by expert agencies, as well as data accumulated by Rosstat, and projected values for national development goals. The research results serve as a fundamental basis for improving regional and national policies.
