This case highlights the utility of transoesophageal echocardiography in diagnosing a stuck mechanical mitral valve in a patient presenting with dyspnoea and pulmonary oedema despite therapeutic anticoagulation.
A 53-year-old woman was admitted for dyspnoea. Her past history included mitral valve replacement (mechanical, tilting disc) 20 years earlier.
