The article examines the role of electronic document management (EDM) in optimizing business processes of commercial organizations in the context of digital transformation. It discusses the main theoretical aspects of EDM and provides an analysis of the current situation and government policy regarding electronic document management in Russia. The paper presents empirical case studies of successful EDM implementation in large Russian companies across various industries and identifies the key challenges businesses face during the transition to electronic document exchange. The study summarizes practical outcomes of EDM adoption using solutions provided by leading domestic operators. Particular attention is given to the digitalization barriers faced by small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as to measures of state support. In conclusion, the article outlines the advantages, difficulties, and development prospects of EDM, emphasizing its strategic importance in enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of modern organizations.
