The study offolklore andfolklife continues to grow in North American colleges and universities. At least 509 American and 19 Canadian institutions offer folklore courses, generally in English departments, with introductory folklore being the most popular course. Though the degree in folklore is not common, programs offering degrees in related disciplines with concentrations or minors in folklore are steadily increasing. Most academicfolklorists do not hold degrees in folklore.
