S ummary . The evidence suggests that children in their first year of comprehensive school education in physics and biology did not display any increase in their interest in these subjects during the academic year. This is seen as particularly problematic for girls since they have, in any case, a low expectation in physics at the beginning of the year which was not affected by a year's experience in science.
