SUMMARY A model is presented which simulates a complex industrial system consisting of the system's market, the production scheduling operation and the production operation. The production process is best adapted to continuous operation, but the market generates many small orders, each of which has unique specifications. A simulation model was used because the system was too complex to be studied solely by analytic techniques.
