Faced with ever‐increasing development in technology and dwindling library budgets, British medical librarians are now considering the possibility of providing an in‐house medline service based on CD‐ROM technology. This raises a variety of issues concerned with end‐user searching, particularly the quality of searching, and poses questions relating to the volatile nature of technology. This paper describes the CD‐ROM product, the problems implementation has raised, and draws on experiences of American end‐user use of mini‐medline .
