The three pillar of word sustainability is future driven and forms the bedrock of economic, social and environmental policies of any nation. Sustainable development entails meeting the needs of developing the present without compromising the need of future generations. It embraces an inclusive or broad-based growth achieved over a time. In Nigeria, the trend for sustainable development by real estate developers appears to be skewed is not as vast as seen in the developed world. The impact is felt in the aspects of especially in infrastructural development as there is unsustainable housing scheme in the real estate sector coupled with improper management of the development. And as such obsolescence is already taking its toll. The study examines the role of real estate developers in achieving sustainable development in Enugu Urban, Nigeria. The study employed qualitative technique to collect, peruse and analyze data from stakeholders in the real estate development industry. Given the infinite nature of the population, a simple random sample size determination of 100 was used. The data were collated and analyzed using frequency, percentage and relative importance index subjected to content analysis and analysis of variance. The study revealed that physical, environmental and economic sustainability elements affect the role of real estate developers in achieving sustainable development. The implication is that for real estate developers to achieve sustainable development in Nigeria, environmental and economic sustainability elements should be prioritized.
