Abstract Possible experimental studies of multiplicity and spectra of photoneutrons from heavy nuclei not undergoing fission at γ-quanta energies of Eγ ≈ (7–20) MeV are considered. Gamma-quanta of such energy can be obtained as quasi-monochromatic collimated γ-quantum beams from Compton back-scattering. Parameters of such beams and the features of previously proposed fast neutron spectrometers are discussed.
