Abstract Cyclotriveratrylenophanes were synthesized and their inclusion abilities for fullerenes were examined by UV spectroscopy. From the spectra, the association constants were determined using Rose and Drago method. Cyclotriveratrylene hosts showed shape-selective properties and large association constants up to 19400 ± 110 dm3mol−1 for C60 and 26500 ± 260 dm3mol−1 for C70
