This study used the notion of the risk-based view of trust and showed the mechanism of forming trust toward flying AI-taxis by integrating perceived competence, regulation, and risk and their impact on usage intention. Taking a mixed-method approach, the online survey was developed upon the findings from the qualitative data and randomly distributed via an online research panel, yielding 300 responses in total. The results of SEM showed that saving travel time, solving traffic congestion, novel transportation experience, and confidence in regulation significantly strengthened trust. This study revealed the difference between groups of consumers, residents vs. non-residents, in building trust.
