Acute unintentional single-substance pediatric exposures to direct factor Xa inhibitors reported to US Poison Centers, 2011–2019
Key Points
This research aims to assess the outcomes of unintentional single-substance exposures to factor Xa inhibitors in young children.
Analysis of data from US Poison Centers
Focus on children under 6 years of age
Evaluation of bleeding risks associated with exposures
Asymptomatic exposures are unlikely to lead to significant bleeding
No severe clinical outcomes reported in most cases
Findings suggest a low risk from unintentional exposure
Abstract
These data suggest that asymptomatic, unintentional, single substance exposures to factor Xa inhibitors in patients <6 years of age are unlikely to develop clinically significant bleeding.
