The article analyzes the processes, phenomena and problems in the suburban areas of Lviv as a large city of the "rear" zone during the Russian-Ukrainian war. The changes occurring in the spatial structure of all substructures of the life of society – administrative, functional, transport, social, imaginative – are considered. The processes in the urban planning system of "Greater Lviv" are highlighted and analyzed, their features in the territories of the city – the center and its surroundings, their connection with changes and problems in the space of the city and the prospects for its development are revealed. An analysis of urban planning documents, Concepts and Strategies for the future development of the Lviv urban agglomeration was carried out, reflecting in them new processes and phenomena in the context of today's realities - considering the region as a "rear" and the formation of a new administrative-territorial structure (Lviv urban territorial community and Lviv agglomeration), etc. The tasks and ways to solve the problems of forming the Lviv urban agglomeration are substantiated. The urban planning solution of the ParkSide residential complex on the Lviv ring road is assessed, and the problematic nature of this proposal is revealed against the background of the general problems of the city and its suburban zone, as well as this fragment of the territory, which is evidence of ignoring new processes and existing spatial realities. The need to rely on ideas and solutions from the past, which retain their relevance and effectiveness, when justifying local projects in suburban areas of the city center is confirmed. Proposals for optimizing the design solution of the ParkSide residential complex are substantiated.
