Abstract Beginning with this issue of the Journal the editors will present papers prepared by speakers and correspondents for the National Symposium on Forest Resources Undergraduate Education and the Forestry Profession held February 12-13 in Roanoke, Virginia. Purpose of the symposium, sponsored by the SAF and National Research Council, was to “… stimulate widespread discussion of current topics and issues related to improvement of undergraduate curricula and teaching in forestry.” In addition to the views by younger members of our profession here presented, the Journal in subsequent issues will publish papers by industrial, state, and federal employers, members of the consuming public, and forestry educators
