The article is devoted to the study of the main stages of formation and ideology in the early 30s. XX century one of the largest scientific societies in Turkey – the Turkish Historical Society, which has the constitutional status of a society for the scientific study and popularization of Turkish culture and history. In the course of the study, the authors came to the conclusion that the Turkish Historical Society, created with the direct participation of the state, laid down the main scientific directions and topics of historical, archaeological and ethnographic research. The desire of Turkish society to search for its historical and ethnic roots stimulated interest in studying not only the history of pre-Ottoman and pre-Seljuk Turkey, but also the history and ethnography of the Turkic peoples of Central Asia and Siberia. This was reflected in the research topics of Turkish scientists, the organization of translations into Turkish of scientific works of researchers from other countries on the history and ethnography of related peoples, and the regular familiarization of the scientific community with scientific research on these topics in other countries, primarily in the USSR. The creation of the Turkish Historical Society created favorable conditions for the formation of a national historiography on the history of Turkey.
