In this study, the adhesive strength of the dissimilar joints with a polymer agent was evaluated using the laser spallation technique. The similar and dissimilar material joint samples were prepared with Al plate and unidirectional CFRP plate in the shape of a lap-joint type. The thickness of the adhesive layer was 0.05 mm. Weak bond Al/Al joint sample was prepared by applying a release agent on the adhesive surface. These samples were submitted to the shear-tensile and laser spallation tests. The spallation test could evaluate adhesive strength without stress concentration at the adhesive edge, which occurred in the shear-tensile test. In particular, the average tensile strength of Al/Al joints was 23.2 MPa, while that of Al/CFRP joints exceeded 36.5 MPa. In both Al/Al and Al/CFRP specimens, delamination occurred at the aluminum/adhesive interface. However, higher strength was estimated for Al/CFRP joints by both tests.
