Key Points

  • To assess and document archaeological resources in areas affected by the 12 kV electrical upgrade project.
  • Conducted intensive surface surveys in unsurveyed areas of the project site.
  • Focused on areas exempted from previous surveys, particularly around the cantonment area.
  • Recorded findings from a total of 10.6 miles of surveyed land.
  • Identified two new archaeological sites and three isolated artifacts in the project area.
  • Documented a total of ten archaeological sites and four artifacts that could be affected by the project.

Abstract

SAIC performed intensive archaeological surface surveys of portions of the project area for the proposed 12 kV electrical upgrade project on Vandenberg Air Force Base. The surveys were conducted of areas not surveyed by VAFB archaeologists, or otherwise exempted from survey (ie. within the cantonment area). The survey areas consisted of a total of 10.6 miles. Two archaeological sites and three isolated artifacts were recorded. In total ten archaeological sites and four isolated artifacts may potentially be impacted by this project.
