Amyloidosis is characterized by the extracellular deposition of amyloid protein fibrils in tissues, including the conjunctiva, due to their insolubility in proteolytic enzymes. Conjunctival amyloidosis, particularly involving the eyelid conjunctiva, is a rare clinical entity.
