Many published studies report on patients at a single site. It MATTERS is a registry that captures clinical data from 15 sites across the US. Here we report emerging patient demographic data that can better inform physicians on the medical histories of patients undergoing penile prosthesis placement. METHODS: It MATTERS is a single-arm, prospective, multi-center registry with follow-up occurring post-surgery and at 6 months, 12 months, and annually, thereafter. Analysis of baseline data is focused on Tactra™, Spectra™, and AMS Ambicor™ using ANOVA or Chi-squared tests. Data on the AMS 700™ is not yet available. RESULTS: Currently, 62 penile prostheses have been implanted: Tactra (n=38), Spectra (n=13), and AMS Ambicor (n=11). The most prevalent etiology of erectile dysfunction (ED) includes diabetes (28.3%, 17/60), organic ED (20.0%, 12/60), pelvic surgery other than prostatectomy (18.3%, 11/60), prostatectomy (16.7%, 10/60), vascular disease/insufficiency (16.7%, 10/60), Peyronie's disease (11.7%, 7/60), and neurologic disorder (10.0%, 6/60). A number of patient characteristics have emerged overall and also in groups of patients based on implant type (Table 1) including current antidepressant use as well as sexual partner, type of sexual penetration, and frequency of sexual activity. De novo cases were also captured, with a total of 66.1% (41/62). Although current antidepressant use and de novo surgeries show statistical significance at this time, these preliminary data will continue to bring more meaningful patient characteristics into focus as these groups grow through enrollment. CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary baseline data from the It MATTERS registry demonstrates that a patient pursues penile prosthesis placement regardless of sexual partner status, frequency of penetration 6 months prior to surgery, or frequency of sexual activity 4 weeks prior to surgery. Continued enrollment in the It MATTERS registry will allow for the comparison of patient characteristics and outcomes, which will lead to future innovation and advancing patient care.
