Community-Based Maternal Healthcare Services Coverage Assessment in Somali Border Regions of Kenya

Maternal health outcomes in Somali border regions of Kenya have been adversely affected by a lack of comprehensive healthcare services. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including surveys (n=500) and qualitative interviews (n=20). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis to identify patterns and trends. The survey revealed a coverage rate of 78% for essential maternal healthcare services in the region. Key themes identified included inadequate transportation options and limited awareness about available services among women. Community-based maternal healthcare services are underutilized, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to improve accessibility and awareness. Develop a mobile health app to enhance service dissemination and establish community health worker training programmes to address identified gaps.
