Preserving Intellectual Heritage in Tanzania's Libraries and Archives: A Comparative Study

Tanzania's libraries and archives play a crucial role in preserving African intellectual heritage, reflecting diverse cultural narratives and scholarly works. The study employed qualitative research methods including interviews with library staff, archival experts, and a review of existing literature on intellectual heritage preservation in African contexts. Findings indicate that while some institutions exhibit robust documentation strategies, others struggle with funding and technological resources, particularly in rural areas. The study concludes that effective preservation requires sustainable funding mechanisms and greater investment in digitalization to ensure long-term accessibility of intellectual heritage materials. Recommendations include the allocation of more funds for infrastructure development and training programmes targeting library personnel, with a focus on digital literacy.
