Community healthcare workers (CHWs) play a crucial role in primary health care systems across sub-Saharan Africa, including North Malawi. The intervention study employed a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data from surveys with qualitative insights through interviews and focus group discussions. A total of 150 CHWs were surveyed over a period of six months. A significant proportion (68%) of CHWs reported positive outcomes in their service delivery, particularly in maternal health care areas. However, only half (52%) felt adequately trained to handle complex cases. CHWs contribute positively to healthcare services but require enhanced training and support for optimal performance. Enhanced training programmes should be developed focusing on handling more challenging medical scenarios, along with improved community engagement strategies.
