Immunogenicity and Safety of Live Attenuated Varicella Vaccine in Children and Youth With Solid Organ Transplants in Canada: A Canadian Immunization Research Network Study
Key Points
The aim is to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of the live attenuated varicella vaccine in children post-solid organ transplantation.
Assessed the immunogenic response to the varicella vaccine in children and youth with solid organ transplants
Evaluated safety and tolerability of the vaccine administration
Monitored VZV serostatus and clinical outcomes post-vaccination
Live attenuated varicella vaccine was shown to be immunogenic in the cohort
The vaccine was generally well tolerated with minimal adverse effects
Recommendation for vaccine consideration in seronegative children with appropriate follow-up
Abstract
LAVV was immunogenic and generally well tolerated in our cohort of patients. Post-SOT LAVV should be considered for select VZV seronegative children with close follow-up.
