Objective: The aim of the article is to reflect on the role of the carnival bloc 'As Virgienses' as a sociocultural practice of the cultural identity of Vigia de Nazaré (PA), Theoretical Framework: This topic presents the main concepts and theories that underpin the research. The concept of cultural identity is highlighted, based on Hall (2005), Giddens (2002), and Harvey (2016), which provide a solid foundation for understanding the context of the investigation. Method: The adopted methodology encompasses a qualitative approach, aiming to understand the carnival group 'As Virgienses'. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews, ethnography, and participant observation. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that the performance of “As Virgienses,” grounded in the inversion of gender roles, the use of satire and irreverence, updates traditions and challenges social norms, promoting a symbolic space of freedom and belonging. In the discussion section, these results are contextualized in light of the theoretical framework, highlighting the identified implications and relationships. Possible discrepancies and limitations of the study are also considered in this section. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing insights into how the results can be applied or influence practices in the field of culture and identity. These implications may encompass the future organization of Carnival in Vigia de Nazaré/PA. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature on cultural identity through its innovative approach to the field. The relevance and value of this research are evidenced by its potential to support Cultural Policies.
