Clinical observations reveal excess energy contributes to anxiety and depressive symptoms, indicating the need for new therapeutic approaches.
Patients with a history of childhood hyperactivity often develop a maladaptive trajectory in adult life marked by anxiety, depression, and addictive behaviors. This clinical observation-based study explores the hypothesis that unchanneled excess energy in these individuals—previously expressed through play and movement—turns into psychic symptoms and compulsions when faced with monotony or low-stimulus environments. We describe therapeutic challenges in treating such patients, who frequently reject conventional work settings, seek adrenaline, and respond poorly to pharmacological sedation, often falling into a vicious cycle of medicalization, emotional coldness, and simulation. The present study highlights the need for integrated psychotherapeutic approaches beyond routine medication and diagnostic classification
